Phosphate conversion coating is a chemical treatment applied to steel parts that creates a thin adhering layer of iron, zinc, or manganese phosphates to improve corrosion resistance or lubrication or as a foundation for subsequent coatings or painting. Manganese Phosphate is the hardest of all phosphate coatings and is typically used on fittings, fasteners, bearings and bushes. Because of its oil absorptive properties it is also used on any fittings that slide against one another and is widely used in engines and transmissions on cylinder liners, piston rings, camshafts, differential gears and transmission
gears.
